TitleAccount Books.
AdminHistoryThe Account Books begin in 1899 when Harry Rapsey appears to have taken over the long-established carpentry and building business of his father, Jesse Rapsey of Wootton Fitzpaine. He in turn was succeeded by his son Frank Rapsey. W J Mills of Charmouth, who was working as a sub-contractor for the business in 1933, took over the business by 1938. In later years the business was run by A E Smith. Initially the accounts contain deatails of building and carpentry work carried for many clients, including local churches. The business also made coffins. Gradually this side of the business expanded to the exclusion of other carpentry work. From 1938 the accounts contain details of coffins and funeral arrangements only.
