AdminHistoryMiss Winifrede Mardsen, OBE, JP, was the first woman to be become Mayor of Dorchester, was a member of Dorset County Council Executive Committee and, during the Second World War, Chairman of the Women's Land Army, a member of the County War Agricultural Committee, Head of the Dorchester Billeting Officers and Rest Centre and founder of the Dorset Comforts Committee. She was also, for two and a half years, Chairman of the Dorset Federation of Women's Institutes Executive Committee.
